What I’m working on
A big writerly THANK YOU to everyone who read The Black Falls last month - your eyeball time and lovely comments are much appreciated!
Thanks to popular demand I have now written a prequel to The Black Falls, telling pirate Mum’s origin story. It’s a little different in tone to the first one and I’ll be editing it this month, hopefully to share with you all later in February. Expect riches to rags, with added revenge.
I submitted things (yay) and got rejected (boo) but the fight continues.
What I’ve been reading
My Best Friend’s Exorcism by Grady Hendrix.
Abby and Gretchen have been best friends since fifth grade, when they bonded over a shared love of E.T., roller-skating parties, and scratch-and-sniff stickers. But when they arrive at high school, things change. Gretchen begins to act….different. And as the strange coincidences and bizarre behavior start to pile up, Abby realizes there’s only one possible explanation: Gretchen, her favorite person in the world, has a demon living inside her. (Good Reads)
This book wasn’t really what I expected at all. I was expecting a fun and silly book about teens using Ouija boards, but it was actually quite harrowing at times, and on occassion pretty gross (almost threw up in Morrisons - thanks Grady). But I think the main theme of this book isn’t really demons - it’s more about the power of friendship and how far we are willing to go for those we care about.
What I’ll be reading next
Daphne Du Maurier’s Don’t Look Now - a series of horror short stories.
Newton Webb’s new novella, The Horror at Hargrave Hall.
I’m also reading a short from a member of my writing group - hopefully you’ll be able to read it too when it’s published!
What I’ve been listening to
Still Waiting by Jazz Emu. Prepare to be bizzared. You are welcome.
